Mailbox migration and Exchange cache mode

Hi

We are having issues with a site that is migrating from Exchange 5.5 to
Exchange 2003. Prior to the mailbox move , Outlook Cache mode was turned on
for all clients within the site via group policy and was working well against
the Exchange 5.5 server. However when we move a maibox to the new Exchange
2003 server whilst cache mode is still turned on for the site users cannot
continue to work offline after the mailbox move to exchange 2003. Other than
turning off cache mode on the group policy , deleting the old .ost files for
these users and reconnecting online for all users. Is there any other way
around this....? It involves 1000 users.....

Cheers

Take a peek at your Outlook administrative template file for this setting.

POLICY "Exchange Unicode Mode - Ignore OST Format"
KEYNAME Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\EMSP
PART "Choose whether existing OST format determines mailbox mode"
DROPDOWNLIST
VALUENAME IgnoreOSTFormat
ITEMLIST
NAME "OST Format determines mode" VALUE NUMERIC 0 DEFAULT
NAME "Create new OST if format doesn't match mode" VALUE NUMERIC 1
NAME "Prompt to create new OST if format doesn't match mode" VALUE
NUMERIC 2
END ITEMLIST
END PART
END POLICY

I'm thinking that going with the "Create new OST if format doesn't match
mode" might be what you are looking for since 5.5 was an ANSI store and 2003
is unicode.

Thanks for the fast turn around Neo.

I am struggling to understand how this works...? "What is ment by "Create
new OST if format doesn't match mode" how can the client log on offline when
they an old reference to the previous mail server in their .ost profile.....?

confused....?

It means that as soon as Outlook detects that mailbox was moved between
Exchange 5.5 and Exchange 2003, it will create a new OST file because
Exchange 5.5 uses an ANSI store while Exchange 2003 utilizes a Unicode
store. So mode in this case means ANSI vs. Unicode.
