Does windows have anything to notify you when you have mail

Twiggy - Yes it does. If you look down in the system tray (far bottom right
of your desktop, you'll see little icons: Volumn Control; time of day; safely
remove hardware; etc. Windows Live Mail has a little icon that looks like a
little letter in the current version (6.0.6000.16386). A little "star" shows
up when you have mail. The previous version of Live Mail had a little yellow
folder/square for the icon in the system tray, but a little letter appears
behind it and offset to the upper left when mail comes in.

Now there's an option to add sound in the Opitions area of Windows Mail, but
that never worked for me. With Yahoo, a note pops up on my desktop with
sound to notify me of incoming mail. I don't know what the deal is with
Windows Mail in this regard.

Good luck,

Captain

Twiggy - I gave you erroneous info in my previous post to you. Here's the
correction regarding how to tell when you've received mail in Windows Live
Mail. Also know, I believe, you must be signed in to the mail program.

Normally, there’s a little letter, I believe with a red stamp in the upper
right-hand corner, in the system tray. When mail comes in, a little yellow
envelop, which is closed, appears superimposed on top of the white envelop,
but shifted down a bit and to the right. Sorry for the confusion in my last
post to you. I had issues of my own, and Windows Mail, as opposed to Windows
Live Mail, caused issues for me. My previous post to you gave mail receipt
info based on Windows Mail.

Triggy – Regard getting a "sound" notification when you receive new email: If
you go to the menu at the top of Windows Live Mail, click on Tools/Options
and then the “General Tab†if it’s not already open, you’ll see under
“Send/Receive Messages†an option to click on that reads, “Play sound when
new messages arrive.†If you select that, in addition to the visual
notification in the system tray you will hear a little bell-like sound to
notify you of new mail receipt. Make sure the volume is turned up on you
computer.
