so strange.
started using vista last week on a rather fast computer (if it can work with
my photoshop files and it has 2GB of RAM it is fast).

i miss outlook express, but have to get used to mail (well, it is not that
different). it starts normally, only EVERY time i need to write an email or
reply to one or forward one (in short any case of CREATING an outgoing
message) it takes literally up to a minute for MAIL to rpovide with the
window to write.
in that time it swells to 650 MB in RAM and takes up 80, 90, 95% of
processing power and still takes this absurd amount of time.

as all else seems to be working the same way as in good old windows XP i
have no idea what might be causing this slowdown, but it is driving me CRAZY,
as my main method of communication with clients, friends, whoever is ...
email.

anybody who knwos what's happening please help me solve this.

as a reward of sorts enjoy maybe my photo web sites like
www.burningmanpix.info , supposedly (so people say) one of the best burning
man photo sites around.

ok, enough self promotion, please HELP!

woooow!
i still can not believe that one of the most used programs in any operating
system can have such an incredibly, incredibly, incredibly BAD way of dealing
with every day situations...
yes, i have 8000 contacts. and why should i not?
it wasn't a problem in outloox express.
isn't vista supposed to be an "improvement".

i still can not believe this. deleting my contacts solved the issue.
but, hey, now i don't have any contacts. but why would microsoft care???

or should we be thankful to microsoft for FORCING us to go thru our contacts
and separate the good apples from the bad, the people we want to write one
day and those we decide to forget forver?

amazing, amazing, amazing!
i normally am not a microsoft basher, and actually prefer windows (XP i
guess) to apple (even though i work on apple sometimes for professional video
editing).
but this is really disgusting.
again, this is an elemental function of any operating system. not to be able
to use email like i want to (and, yes, i do want to have 8000 contacts,
nicely sorted into groups, people belonging to several groups, etc - MY
CHOICE, bill!) is absurd.

so, yes, i will definitely add my voice to those who say I HATE MAIL !

(btw, does anybody know of email software which allows TIME DELAYED sending
out of messages? i receive an email, write the answer immediately, but
sometimes do not want to send it immediately. putting it in the drafts folder
is not a solution, as it will take me time and effort to send it out manually
later on.
so, if microsoft honcho is reading this: to atone for the disastrous MAIL
software integrated a SEND DELAY feature into the next version...)

thanks also to the wonderful effort of describing the SSSLLLOOOWW problem
and suggesting the solution by http://netorator.com/

cheers

If you really have 8000 contacts you should be using an industrial strength
email program like Outlook. I would never trust a freebie email program
with something that may be critical to your livelihood.

BTW, Outlook does time-delayed email.

thanks, gary, for the reminder about outlook having a time-delayed feature.
never used outlook, as i organize my calendar and to-do list in a different
way, but i'll try it.

obviously i have backups of my contacts and i never had major problems with
outlook express over the years, so i am not risking a lot by using it.

i'll try live mail and hope that brightens up microsoft's reputation with
me...
:-)
thanks for the help
