Mail Merge - Word 2003 & Access 97

I am running Word 2003 & Access 97. For months I have had no problem w/ the
date of birth format (M,d,yyyy) coming from my Access database. However, for
no reason I can ascertain, suddenly in my Word 2003 letter, the date of birth
is showing and printing: yyyy-M-dd and also w/ the time 00:00:00.
I have checked the regional system settings on the computer, as well as the
date format in Access, and they are both formatted for the short date
M,d,yyyy.
Any suggestions other than leaving this item blank and writing or typing it
in separately?

I tried. Perhaps I don't know where to place the date switch field. I found
your website did not sufficiently explain. Perhaps you could type a reply
that I can copy into my document?

You add the date switch to your merge field.

All the information that you need to do this is on that web page; however
Press Alt+F9 toggle the display. It will show something like

{Mergefield Fieldname} add the switch after the fieldname thus
{Mergefield Fieldname \@ "M,d,yyyy"}
Press F9 to update then ALT+F9 to toggle back again.
