Default date format

When I startup Word 2003, the date format is mm/dd/yyyy. When I change this
date format to dd/mm/yyyy and click on default, the date in Word does get
changed to the dd/mm/yyyy format.

However, when I now exit from Word and then re-enter Word, the date format
has reverted to mm/dd/yyyy (even though I had changed the default date).

Why is the default date not being saved ?

When you click Default... in the Insert | Date and Time dialog, you are
selecting the format that will be used when you use Alt+Shift+D or the
Insert Date button on the Header and Footer toolbar to insert a date. It
does not change the date that is selected when you open the Date and Time
dialog. That selection is governed by the defaults you have selected for
Short Date and Long Date in the Regional Options folder in Windows Control
Panel.
