Mail merge will not send Word Docs in HTML format, even though it.

When using the mail merge function -- even though I have checked HTML as the
format of choice in emails -- my letters from Word are always sent in plain
text. And any pictures or graphic or other formatting is lost.

Any solution to send bulk emails from my Contacts and not lose the html
formatting?
