Mail Merge in PowerPoint

Is it possible to merge data from an Excel file into
PowerPoint? I've designed a certificate in PowerPoint
and would like to add names and dates without typing each
data point manually.

Any ideas? I would prefer not to make a template in MS
Word and re-feed the certificate through the printer a
second time to avoid smudges and paper curling.
