Mail Merge Hang

The only idea I have is that you need to provide more details about what
you're doing, what you expect to happen, and what is happening instead. Word
and Windows versions would be helpful, too.

XP SP3
Office 2k7 all SP and hotfixes installed.

Mail merger = email
Recip = from outlook
fire off merge it'll start going and hang at random times. It'll blast out
20 or so hang peg the CPU the only way to fix it is to kill the process.
I've tried other machines the same problem. 2K3 work flowlessly, 2K7 has
issues but I can't find any solutions????

TIA

Assuming you are merging to HTML, a number of people have experienced this
problem and it has been reported to Microsoft. There has been a suggestion
that

If you can merge to plain text format, you should be OK, but will of course
see the security alerts. If merging to plain text works OK, it may be worth
trying to merge to HTML again.

Peter:

Thank you for the reply. I've been having this problem for a very long
time. I've posted here before, googled like crazy and never found a
solution. You're the first to say that the problem has been reported to MS.
It's so intermittent. I used the same doc last week and the merge to 700+
emails worked fine! Yesterday I changed three words in the same doc, used
the exact same list and it hangs at 20 some odd at a shot.

<rant>Very Frustrating, it should work the same way every time </rant>

As a work around I installed MAPILABS Mail Merge tool kit. ***I did not use
Mail Merge Tool kit, I just installed it! The merge ran as it should 486
email in 4 min. NO HANG!!!!!!

Would love to know what changes the tool kit makes to office 2K7????

Yes, that is interesting. I don't know which approach MapiLabs uses to make
their addon work (I can think of a few theoretical possibilities): to affect
Word's ordinary merge-to-email, I'd expect that Mapilab would have to alter
the standard MAPI installation in some way, but that may well be incorrect.
But good for them!
