My AV application: Kaspersky Anti-Virus (6.0.2.6210)

According to http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 e-mail scanning does not
provide any additional protection.

Would it be safe/advisable to disable the Mail Anti-Virus function?

There is an important piece of info on that page:

"Because of the fragility of the OE message store structure and its
propensity for destruction, ..."

Have you considered a more robust email client? I'd recommend
Thunderbird as the most common alternative product.

Yes. As long as the anti-virus application is running in the background,
it will prevent you from executing any known viruses.

Yes I heard about the 'fragility' of OE6 and am using now Windows Live Mail
(Version 2008), downloaded from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...45f6-4d14-a7dc-51e13d11a950&displaylang=en&tm

I like it because it lets me accessing multiple e-mail accounts in one place
and hope that this application is and improvement concerning 'fragility'.

How is this fragility in Outlook? I use Outlook as a PIM
and I'm really quite dependent upon it - and I love those
functions.

I do use Thunderbird for some other email accounts I have -
but my main one remains in Outlook.

Presently using Outlook 2003 - is there anything that should
be done to Outlook to help matters along? I do use NOD32
with the email option enabled, I use a good spam filter and
I'm careful. I know that none of this is anywhere near a
guarantee.

Outlook Express (OE), not Outlook. They are different applications.
I've not had a problem with OE's message store but then I don't
allow anything to mess with the incoming message stream.
