Maghifying Window

I somehow turned on a magnifier window (approx. 4"w x 3"h) over top of a
Window document that I had open. I don't know why or how it appeared (no
doubt, I had hit a couple of keyboard items), and I've never seen anything
like it in the configuration in which it appeared. It did not seem to have
anything to do with the magnifier window feature, which I know is activated
through the 'All programs>Accessories>etc. path (which I activated and closed
as I tried various options to get rid of the magnification window). There was
no task-bar indication for this particular magnifying window (as there is for
the magnification window activated through 'Accessories'), and such actions
as right-clicking on it did nothing to bring up a 'close' command. I finally
had to close down my computer (Toshiba) to end the presence of this feature.

I've never seen this feature in the configuration in which it appeared, and,
as I said, it did not seem to have anything to do with the 'Accessories'
feature and was activated by some sort of keyboard action.

Can anyone tell me what I was looking at, how I might have caused it to
appear, and how I should be able to close it separately?

Thanks.

It is possible that it was produced by your mouse, rather than the
keyboard.
e.g. I just changed my Microsoft mouse to use the magnifier when I
press the wheel button and it produces a window approx 5"x4".
I hit the wheel button again to remove the window.
Check out your mouse buttons in Control Panel-Mouse and see if
anything shows.
If not, check your keyboard in Control Panel-Keyboard

Alan, thanks for your response and the directions about settings with my
mouse (which I had not investigated). I'm glad to know that my mouse has all
of the features that you alerted me to, but the magnifying widow that I
opened does not seem to be one of the options for my mouse. The window I
opened was simply a small window that magnified what was under it. I don't
know how I opened it - I didn't go into Accessories at all. Perhaps it's a
mystery?

Any other suggestions?

What sort of mouse do you have? (Look underneath for the exact name
and model)
What software have you installed for the mouse? (Intellimouse ??)
When you say the magnify window doesn't seem to be an option, are you
certain? In Control Panel-Mouse on the buttons tab, have you checked
all the possible options for a button?

See if there is any help for your mouse on "magnify".

What I saw when I changed the mouse properties was also "simply a
small window that magnified what was under it" and I didn't go into
Accessories at all.
