A macro is a small program that runs inside another program.
MS WORD has macros which allow you to include Excel
spreadsheets (that work) inside a WORD document. The
problem is a macro can also be written that is a virus or
Trojan. A macro can be as simple key-stroke recorder-auto
type program, or a very complex program.
If someone sends you a WORD file, opening it with a plain
text editor such as WordPad will keep the macro from running
while you can look at the file and scan it with your current
anti-virus (current meaning updated at least weekly-daily
check is better).
Macros can be great time savers and they can be paths for
infection. What name did the anti-virus say your macros
have, for that matter what a/v do you have?
You can "clean" infected files or you can repair them (often
you have to do that after cleaning. You can also delete or
quarantine infected files. Depends on your a/v program.

A macro is a type of computer program that runs inside another one, e.g.
Word,Excel, or something like that. They are usually simple little
programs although they can be big and complex. Virus computer program
writers use the power of macros against us.
If this was detected by your virus protection software, assume it is
something to be fixed. Your virus protection software should explain to
you how to fix it, or go to the vendor's site and they will provide
instructions.
