Mac makes ._ files in network shares

We have one MAC running OS 10.3 and everytime it accesses
a file on our windows 2000 network share it creates
a ._filename.ext. These files seem to accumulate and
never go away. We can delete them, but I would hope that
there is a way to prevent the files from even being
created. Any ideas out there?

I have found that MAC os 10 uses a format called Apple
Double. Is there any way to turn this off?

No way to turn this off using Apple's SMB client.
DAVE does not make these.

Or if you need a free solution you can enable File Services for
Macintosh on the server. I recommend this only if you have several Mac
clients. Dave will remove the administrative overhead from the server
and place the responsibility of the connection on the Mac.

The hidden files you are seeing are caused only by Macs connecting to
Windows servers using SMB. File Services for Macintosh will allow the
Mac to connect via AFP and will keep from splitting the Mac's files into
two parts.

Hope this helps! bill
