MAC issues on a Win2k SBS network

I have recently assumed the responsibilities of a
SmBusSvr2000 office. They are graphic intensive and have
6 Mac's for design purposes. They also have 17 PC's as
workstations for other daily activity. The Mac's share
files via a Mac volumne on the SmBusSvr - no issues. The
Mac volumne is for sharing of graphics production files
that all are working on - no issues here.

Owners want "all data" on "all" systems backed up nightly
to a seperate "Backup Server". Problem is - none of the
Mac's can be browsed via the Server. I seem unable to map
any Mac's Hard drive. So other than the Mac Volumne share,
I can not see anything Mac related.

How do I bring the Mac's into "My Network Places" so they
are viewable ?? How do I set up the nightly backups of
the Mac hard drives ?

I am perfectly willing to I have overlooked
something .... could someone tell me what it is ?

keep smiling

Hi,

Quite simply, you can't get the Macs to show up in net hood. If the macs are
OS X, you could easily schedule a copy job that creates a big tarball and
then copies the tarball via SMB to the PC server. This will involve some
shell magic, mostly with Cron. The antics of doign this are well above and
beyond my Mac/Unix knowledge. Google will be able to help, though.

If you're running OS 9, you'll probabyl need to use a client program for the
macs called Dave, and you may need something to run a scheduled job every
night. I'm even less familiar with OS9 than with v10. An easier solution
would be to tell the mac users to save *everything* to shares on the SBS
box. Create shares on the apple volume for each user.
