is there a preferred way to back up mp3 files pls. I have looked at online
storage but I'm not sure what'd be best

This is up to you. If you prefer to use an online service (usually free
for a while), you should have a good internet connection. If you plan
to use your MP3 at your home's HiFi or Car MP3 player, record a CD with
all your favorite MP3s.

I think the best way is using USB2.0 external hard drive.

Try www.intldirect.com. I found out their 3 year warranty hard drive
should be the best deal with their USB 2.0 case.
