Yes, it could hurt.
OneCare is a fully installed anti virus and FireWall application. It imbeds itself deeply
in the OS and can interfere with third party applications. Due to OneCare's poor catch rate
in malware, it can also cause a False Negative syndrome. That is one thinks they are safe
becuase nothing is found. On tests I have performed, Microsoft AV software has caught as
little as 40% of the sampling.
In this case a removal utility is FAR BETTER than a fully installed application.
If a fully installed anti virus solution is warranted, Kaspersky or NOD32 are strongly
suggested.
I know the author Marckie of the HaxFix utility and it is specifically designed for the
Haxdoor/Goldun families of malware. Certain families of malware are *best* removed by
specialty malware removal tools that vendor applications. This includes the
Vundo/Virtumonde family as well as the SmitFraud family.
