lurker needs help please

hi, everytime i start up my computer calendar opens, msn messenger opens
and a microsoft works word processor page opens. is there anything i
can do to stop this?
i am new at the computer and don't know what i am doing wrong to cause
this.

Sounds like the programs you mentioned are being told to start automatically when Windows starts. The thing to do is after you're at the desktop check each program/s options/tools/preferences to see if there is a check in a box saying to stat when Windows starts.
