Lsass.exe

I get a boot error that says
lsasse.exe system error
object file not found

It is a Dell machine. I try and put in the XP installation
disk and try to use the repair console. It asks for a
password. I never set up any password, and therefore don't
know how to get by the password entry.

Any help would be appreciated

When you first installed windows xp did you use a password as opposed to a
user password which is set up after installation? If you left it blank and
hit enter did you try the same with current password entry?

Just hit ENTER when prompted to enter a password.
Using the recovery console type...

expand d:\i386\lsass.ex_ c:\windows\system32\lsass.exe

....to extract a new copy of LSASS.EXE (a system critical
service)
