I am trying to do a repair reintall of XP Pro. During the process, I get the
following error message:
"an invalid perameter was passed to a service or fucntion."

Eventually the re-install stops before completion and I also get an error
message stating that there is an administrator password problem. I have
administrator rights to the machine.

Any guidance or suggestions is appreciated.

Hi Rob,
You didn't tell us why you are Reinstall/ Repair XP, Is it a Vrius stuff or
Slowing down system or more Error messages?, please tell us any Information
to start to link it together and give you the right Troubleshoot procedure.
Thank you.

Nass, thanks for your response.
The systems started slowing downing noticeably over the past 2-3 weeks. I
ran a spysweeper and windowwasher (Webroot) and found no problems. After
that, while downloading an upgraded version of Yahoo Wigit engine I got the
BSOD. I went in through safemode and removed the engine. The system would
try to restart and would freeze giving me the lsass.exe message. Since then,
I have been unable to restart it in any of the safe or last know good modes.
That's what has brought me to attempt the repair stage. It was working like a
charm last night until I hit this latest snag which sems to indicate that the
adm passwords didn't match?

Hi Rob,
You may be infected or while uninstalling the Wigit (Widgit) you render your
System useless.
If you remember the BSOD it will help us to pin point the exact or narrow
down the Cause, you can install this HDD as Slave in another Machine has the
Same Operating System and scan for Viruses by up2date AV, Isass.exe is a
funy excutable file, it can be Manipulated by Viruses.
Also it could be a Memory going bad or hardware faulty causing the problem
to occur.
HTH.
Please let us know.
Regards,
nass

I'll retry the install tonight and repost the BSOD message this weekend.
Thanks for your courtsey and advice.

All the best,

Robb

Ok I see your new post here. You were trying a repair install from the XP
CD. Normally it doesn't ask for an admin password so I don't know what's up
with that. You could try resetting the Admin password to blank using the
utility. Then retry the repair install.

Links for downloading the utility are at the bottom of that page.

If this doesn't work and no one else comes up with an idea, then the next
option is a clean install.

Do you have a backup of all important data? If not slave the hard drive in
another XP or Windows 2000 computer and copy the important data.

Thanks again for all of your help. I have had to resort to a clean install,
but pulled the HD and offloaded everything just to be sure that I had any
data that was not backed up. May turn out to be a failing hardware issue.

Appreciate the guidance.

Ok Robb, thanks for updating the thread with your resolution.
