lsass.exe - application error" on XP bootup

N

Nizzlebop

My system is displaying a "lsass.exe - application error"
window with the following message: "the application failed
to implement properly (0xc0000033)" each time I boot up to
launch Windows XP Pro. The error began occuring right
after an "automated" windows update downloaded and
completed its installation.

I installed WIN2000 on a second disk drive and I can
access the NTFS file system containing the XP
configuration. Thus I am able to manipulate directories
and files on the XP disk drive.

Not one of the very few message threads I have managed to
locate on the web and implement relating to this error
message and has granted me access to my original XP
configuration thus far.

Nor has the solution referenced by the following link
provided in any success:
http://computing.net/windowsxp/wwwb...orum/46198.html.

I have copied files from the last 5 hidden "System Volume
Information" directories back to the windows\system32
\config directory and rebooted which has yielded the same
error each time I attempt to launch XP configuration.

I also used XP setup boot disks to launch the XP
Recovery Console. But nothing available from the console
appears to be able to help me bypass this error.

I really do NOT want to have to reload XP and reinstall
every application. There must be a workaround this
error. Can anyone shed some light on this specific
error? Please help.

Hi,

At worst, you can do a repair install (instructions to follow). Can you
access Safe mode or have you tried loading the last known good config yet?

Follow these steps to do a repair install which should preserve your data,
settings, and programs:

1. Insert the Windows XP CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM
drive.
2. Restart your computer. If you have to, change the BIOS settings to start
from
the CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer again.
3. At the "Welcome to Setup" page, press ENTER.
4. Press F8 to accept the Licensing Agreement.
5. Use the arrow keys to select the installation of Windows XP that you want
to
repair, and then press R to start the automatic repair process.
6. When Setup is completed, activate Windows XP.

Note that you will need your Product Key for this procedure, so have it
handy before you begin.
