LPT1 & LPT2

I installed I/O Parallel PCI card in XP Pro machine. It
automagically attached itself to LPT3. An application I'm
using (old version) uses LPT1 and LPT2 printer ports.

Does anyone know why this card will not load up to LPT2?
LPT2 does not show up in Device Manager. Thanks in
advance.

Your motherboard does not have on board LPT port and is that why you need
external card? The way LPT port numbers are assigned is by the value used in
the I/O port range.

LPT1: 378-37F
LPT2: 278-27F
LPT3: 3BC-3BF

the above numbers are in HEX

It is possible that the card you use has a fixed address assigned to it's
port so Windows see it and translates it to the appropriate LPT number. If
there is a jumper on the card to select the i/o address then you could
change it there.
