LPR or RAW TCP/IP Port - Bandwidth???

J

James Turner

I am supporting a Terminal Services environment which printing across a
number of WAN links.

Is there any benefit in using LPR over RAW as the TCP/IP Printer Port
protocol when it comes to bandwidth used and performance over a slower link?

Cheers,

James.

You'll probably find that RAW (Port 9100) uses slightly less bandwidth (less
total data), but I don't know that you will see that much difference. The
actual data sent to the printer will be the same, just that LPR/LPD protocol
is a bit more complicated, so has slightly more overhead.
