Low Disk Space Problem

I have Vista Home Premium running on a Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop with a 120
GB hard drive. I keep getting the low disc space on C: error message, and
when I click on My Computer, it says I only have 189 MB of free space on the
C: drive. However, when I click on the C drive, highlight all the folders,
and click Properties, it says I am using 26 GB of space next to "size on
disk". I tried to solve this problem about a week ago by moving 30 gigs of
music to an external hard drive, but the C drive has filled up again even
though I have not added anything to the C drive. I've also tried using disk
cleanup and defrag, but that hasn't worked. This seems like a pretty serious
problem. What's the deal?

Thank you

When you run "disk cleanup" there's a "more options" tab. There you can
delete all system restore points and shadow copies (except the most recent).
That may free up the space.

Thanks for the quick response, but that didn't work.
Download/install either SequoiaView or WinDirStat (both are freeware).
These will show you a graphic representation of all files on your hard drive
and help pinpoint what is taking up the space. You can find these at
www.snapfiles.com (or any of the other major download sites).

Thanks a lot, that program solved the problem. All the space was being taken
up by hidden McAfee logs. Do you have any recommendations for other (cheap)
security programs?

I'm glad that helped! There are a number of free security programs that are
Vista compatible.

Antivirus:

Avast! 4.8
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

AVG Free 7.5
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/download-free-anti-virus/us/frt/0

Antispyware with real-time protection:

Spyware Doctor Starter Edition 5.5

Spyware Terminator

There are also free personal firewalls from Comodo, PC Tools, Webroot, and
Checkpoint (Zonealarm). Sorry no links, but you will find them easily with
Google. Regards...
