Low CPU usage

Becky Davis

I'm running Windows XP on a PIII 533 133FSB, have 512K
memory and a 120G harddrive.

My CPU usage is at 100% until I disable PCGUIDE.EXE.
Then CPU usage drops below 30%.

This file is located in the registry under:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
SOFTWARE
MICROSOFT
OFFICE
SEARCH ASSISTANT
ACMru
5603

Could someone tell me what this file does?

Thanks
Becky

Googling gives me a Japanese page with references in English to
"pcguide.exe". Since I can't read Japanese, that's no help to me, but
I'd definitely stop pcguide.exe from starting with msconfig and scan
with current (post-2002 version using updated definitions) antivirus
software. Also, in case this is spyware, scan with Spybot Search &
Destroy and Ad-aware to remove various malware.

That entry is only one of your having looked for it. I think the short
answer is 'nothing useful' Do a Start - Run of MSConfig. look for it in
the Startup page, and uncheck the line to stop it loading. Then see if
anything complains. And run an anti-spyware program like AdAware from
