Low battery shutdown

I am using XP Pro on my desktop. It has started to randomly shutdown and
when started back up, it shows a "Low Battery Message" - "You should change
your batter or switch to outlet power immedialy to keep from losing your
work." When I go into Power Management, it shows my low battery alarm set to
100%, when I try to lower it, I can't. No matter what I do, it immediately
moves back up to 100%. My computer is plugged into a battery backup and into
a wall outlet. Why is this happening? And what can I do to fix it?

The last time I ran into this, I ended up uninstalling the UPS software, and
disconnecting the UPS data cable.
The UPS power fail alarms are loud enough that it can only be ignored on
purpose.
