losyt desktop and start bar

running windows 2000 on Dell laptop.
when i boot up, my desktop icons and start bar are gone,,, just blank
wallpaper
i can open task manager ( CTl-alt_del) and run explorer( or any other app)
by opening new task
Under the performance graph , the CPU perf cyles from 0 to 100 % every 10
secs or so.
How can i get my desktop back?

In Task Manager, you can use file | run and type

eventvwr

to see the event logs....


Can you log in as another user on this laptop and get in OK?

Can you log in as another user on this laptop and get in OK?

When i log in as another user, I still get blank desktop

i ran event mamager, and i see 4 errors

1) unable to open disk performance object,. Status code returned is Data
DWORD 0
2)Unable to open the server service. Server performance data will not be
returned. Error code returned is in Data DWORD 0.
3) Unable to open the redirector service. redirector performance data will
not be returned. Error code returned is in Data DWORD 0
4) The description for event ID( 2001) in Source (rasctrs)cannot be
found.The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or
message DLL files to display mesages from a remote computer. The following
information is part of the event. The event log file is corrupt.



I uninstalled mirc as suggesated by another user. Also recentlty , i
insalled a wireless network card.

Any other suggestions ?

I removed mirc and checked the root for shdocvw.dll as suggested in the
microsoft articles
When i boot in safe mode, i get no desktop, although task mgr will run there
also
when i boot as another user, same condition, no desktop
I recently instaslled a wireless network card,, could this be an issue? i
removed the card
