Lost Vista Ultimate on Boot-Up

Thomas

I'm running a workstation w/ 6 hard drives. My 1st O/S on a separate HD is
Win 2K. 3 yrs. later I added XP Pro on another HD. Last yr. I added Vista
Ult. on a 3rd separate HD. All worked well & after the SCSI initialization I
got to choose which of the 3 to use. Foolish me: I decided to load one of
the 3 remaining HDs w/ XP Pro so I could use it exclusively for gaming. Now
when I power up I still get THREE choices but instead of Win 2K, XP Pro, and
Vista, I get XP Pro (new), XP Pro, Win 2K, but Vista is no longer displayed
as a boot choice. Any idea what happened and how I can get it re-displayed?
Thankyou.

You might want to see if this program helps with this issue.

VistaBootPRO 3.3
http://www.vistabootpro.org/

Install the program in XP.
Launch the program and click on System Bootloader.
Under System Bootloader Maintenance, select Windows Vista Bootloader.
Select All drives and hit the Install Bootloader button.
Restart and see if you can access Vista.

Good luck

Dear NPF: Many thanks. So far, it works. Upon recollection, I have used
BootPro before on another workstation. I would have preferred to learn to
set the SysConfig and/or Registry. I wonder if when I should choose to use
the other 2 remaining unused SCSI HDs & load them w/ XP Pro or Vista Ult, I
will again have the problem of displaying all the O/S choices on boot up? I
question why I lost the display of Vista after loading the newer XP Pro. My
best, Thomas

When you installed XP, the boot sector was replaced with one that
executes XP's ntldr when you boot from the hard drive. To fix the
problem use the bootsect /nt60 sys command to replace the boot sector
with one that runs Vista's bootmgr when booting from the hard drive.

Hello, Andy:
Thank you. That is what I was looking for. There must be a CMD line
in Vista that supercedes the installation of the Win 2K Pro & XP Pro as the
order was W2K as the 1st O/S on SCSI O; then XPPRO on SCSI 1; then VistaUlt.
on SCSI 2: that sequence worked to show all 3 O/S on boot-up. Using the
"lower" XP Pro O/S for the 4th O/S (on SCSI 3) is what over-rode the Vista
boot mgr.

Thanks to both you and Nepatsfan for the fix/options.
Thomas
