lost video transitions

I have a lab at school. I have 7 computers that have no video transtitions
and only 2 video effects in movie maker. Can anyone help? Do you have to
have Windows media player 10 or can you use 9?

You do not need MP10, MP9 is fine.
As far as the missing transitions go it depends on what version of Movie
Maker you are running.
If it is version 1.0 or 2.0 you can simply reinstall the program and that
should fix things or you can upgrade to version 2.1 by downloading SP2 from
Microsoft Update.
If you are running 2.1 already the problem is a little more difficult to
fix.
Reinstalling can still be done but you need to uninstall SP2 and then run
Windows Update to reinstall SP2 since Movie Maker is integrated into the
Service Pack.
A better choice would be to try using System Restore back to a point where
the program was working.
An even better choice would be to try to reregister the DLL files but I, and
I really need to write this down next time it is posted, can't remember the
command to type in to do that.

Hi Help and Wojo....
I knew I read about registering the dll's somewhere and found it on a
PapaJohn Newsletter...go a little more than halfway down the following page
where it says 'registering DLL's' in the middle of the page....and it shows
how to run the 6 of them which can be turned on and off. That page makes
for a lot of helpful reading too, so check out the rest of it. Here is the
URL

I have tried all of this page, but none helps. Guess I will either uninstall
and try again or system restore.

Thanks all, Kim

I am having the same problem on 25 school computers! Un and re-installing
SP2 on those machines will take forever.

I have since answering this post gotten together all the information about
reregistering the DLL's and that usually works so try doing that. The
process is outlined on my website.
