I am running Windows XP Pro Version 2002 Service Pack 1
and I have experienced the following problem:
Whilst doing some normal work with several programs and
windows open my system stalled and when it resumed all my
Desktop Settings and Start Menu settings where lost.
After further inspection I found my entire User Profile
directory ("...\Documents and Settings\Kaysee") was
lost. Not only were all of my User Profile settings lost
but also some of my extremely important directories
containing my work. These work directories were located
under the following path "C:\My Documents\Trial
Projects\". About 50% of the folders contained in this
directory were also deleted but the other 50% remained.
Trying severaly times to reboot and log in as other users
including as an Administrator can't fix the problem it
still reverts to a DEFAULT USER profile.
I have also tried accessing the System Retore application
(but can't through the Start Menu because it is empty, so
I had to run directly from "C:Windows\System32\Restore"),
but I don't have any saved Restore Points.
Does anyone have any suggestions to how I can retrieve my
settins and data? I have tried to minimize writing to
the HDD to try and keep the HDD intact to make retrieving
the files easier.
