Lost Toolbar Icons lost Descriptions

J

JCO

Running Windows 2000 with latest updates to OS and browser.

My toolbar lost the icons description. Example, the back arrow use to have
the words that say "Back". All the icons show up but no descriptions. I
want it set to "Selective Text"... I think is what it said. Normally I
would go to the tool bar, right click and select Customize. The "Customize"
no longer exists, therefore, I can't fix it.

Thanks

Hi JCO :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Toolbar Missing:

To restore your Toolbar, right click the mouse button on any open area of
the Toolbar. You should see a list of tool bars, click on Standard Buttons
and see if this restores your toolbar.

or........

Press F11

or.....

Type this command in the RUN box, and press Enter:

Hope this helps :)

No I don't think you read my entire post (or I worded things wrong).
It is not my tool bar that is missing. It is the customize option that is
missing when you right mouse click on an open area. And because the
"Customize" is missing, I can set my tool bar to "Selective Text". An
example of Selective Text, is the word "Back" next to the arrow that makes
your browser go back one page. I want to restore the Text that is
associated with the toolbar on my IE browser but I can no longer select
"Customize".. which would give me the option to do so.

Hope that makes better sense.

This addressees the problem as you describe:

Toolbars are locked - Unable to customize toolbar and tool band
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/ie/lockedbars.htm
which I provided for you in my first reply. Did you try it? If so, what
was the result, what error messages, if any?

If you have any 3rd party toolbars installed, disable them. If you have
Yahoo Companion uninstall it.

Also..did you also do a scan for scumware on your system? There are various
types of scumware that can also cause this problem. If not, then follow the
instructions here. Be ware that, just running AdAware, SpyBot and your AV
are not enough to detect and remove all types of scumware. You need to use
the full spectrum of detection and removal tools to fully clean your system.

Hi JCO :)
I'm running Windows 2000 as I stated earlier.
Will this link still be good?

In many cases some things that work for 2000 also work for XP and the other
way. As I have not tested this one personally, I don't want to say yes.
Just forget that one. Perhaps one of the experts here will have more
information on if the other will work on 2000. :)

The issued resolved itself.
I uninstalled Adobe Professional 6.0 so that I could install Adobe
Professional 7.0. When I did the uninstall, the customize on the browser
came back. The Adobe was installed for about a year so I know it was not
the cause. However, something in the uninstall fixed it.

Lucky me!
Thanks anyway
