Control Panel View - Lost icons description

F

Frank D.

Hi,

Too bad we can't display pictures here. I could easily show what my problem
is.

Anyway, I have lost the description of the icons (in control panel only)
that usually appears underneath the icon when you select the "Small",
"Medium", "Large", etc. view. All I see is a bunch of icons with no
descriptions.

The only time I see the description is when I select the "Tiles" view.

Anyone knows how to fix this ?

Also, the "View" menu contains an "Explorer Bar" sub-menu (don't know if
it's part of control panel menu by default or was added by a third party or
other Windows software) which contains French options such as "Rechercher",
"Discuter". But I can't access those options to see what they are since
Vista blocks them for security reasons. Anyway to get rid of that "Explorer"
sub menu ?

Thanks.

Link doesn't seem to point to the exact thread but here is the solution:

This is from that article: (http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/138/1/)

"In Windows XP, holding the SHIFT key when changing to Thumbnails view
toggled the display of file name. This trick works in Windows Vista as well.
Follow these steps:

Open the folder which is exhibiting this behavior
From the Views dropdown list, select Details
Press and hold the SHIFT key, and select Medium Icons (or Large Icons) from
the Views dropdown list
Close and re-open the folder."
