lost the sounds within Microsoft outlook

I have been using Office 2007 for about a year, and this morning something
changed. Historically, when I would designate a mail item for permanent
deletion (by hitting shift and delete at the same time), a dialog box would
pop up asking me if I was sure that I wanted that item to be permanently
deleted. When the dialog box appeared, a sound was made simultaneously. (I
believe that if I clicked yes to the question in the dialog box, another
sound was made.) Today, for no apparent reason, there are no sounds made.
I opened Control Panel and selected "sounds" to see if Outlook was among
the programs listed where certain actions within a program are
accentuated with sounds, but i see that Outlook is not listed. I restored
the Sounds from "modified default" to "Windows Default" and re-started
Outlook, but the sound was not restored. Does anyone know how to restore my
sounds?

The Office Help menus have a Repair feature on them. If not, the Control
panel, Programs and Features will list Office, and a rightclick will offer
repair.

I initially posted in the Outlook bulletin board, but was informed
empatically that my problem was not an Outlook issue, but rather an operating
system issue, and I was urged to post in this bulletin board. As i mentioned
in my previous post, I opened Control Panel and selected "sounds" to see if
Outlook was among
the programs listed. Although Quickbooks and other programs which exhibit sound were listed, Outlook was not. Does this jibe with your understanding i.e. that it has to do with the operating system?

The Outlook help also mentions a way to turn sounds on.

On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the General tab.
Select or clear the Provide feedback with sound check box.

When I click Tools, Options, I don't see a General Tab. The default tab is
something entitled "preferences". From there, I am unable to follow your
instruction to "Select or clear the Provide Feedback with sound check box".
Are we talking about the same version of Outlook? I am using Outlook 2007.

On the Tools menu, click Options.
On the Other tab, click Advanced Options.
Select or clear the Provide feedback with sound check box.

Works for Office 2007

Thanks for weighing-in, Jackal. I had already explored the "provide feedback
with sound" check box. This requires that you install an "add-in" which
provides "fun audio cues as you work". I think that this must be for
something entirely different. I am simply looking to restore the sounds that
are resident in Outlook.

Many thanks, Jackal. I checked the box, but did not install the add-in, and
it appears that the sounds that I think of as native to Outlook are now
playing when I take the actions that historically have been accompanied by
sounds. I appreciate your suggestion.

Hi Jay,

Just wondering if you ever got your Outlook sound working, I seem to be
having the same problem.

Are you using Vista? I am, and I just updated it, I think it stopped working
since the update?
