I cannot find my tem internet files and cookies anymore. The hidden files are
visible. Local Settings contains temp, apps and application data, but no tem
internet files.
How do I make them visible again?

Chris

Chris, try opening MyComputer>rt click your drive Icon>select
Properties>Disk Cleanup>Tempory Internet Files>Click on View and in the
Address bar you should see the Path to your Temp Internet Files.

You need to uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" if you want
to see them.

But why do you want to see them?

I know where they should be. I tried what you proposed and in spite of the
fact that it mentions they are in that specific file, I cannot see them.
I don't understand it and I never had this before. I am afraid this s caused
by a firewall or anti-virus program but which one ?

Sometimes it is possible to have photographs from protected websites from
there.
I am collecting the photo's of old guitars for instance from EBay .

Hi Dave ,
THanks , You are the fist one that knows the cause. I asked eveywhere. I
knew that it had to be something like that , but I could not find it.
Do you perhaps also know why my website addressbar in Exlporer 7 doesn't
work?

Thanks again,
Chris

You're welcome.

In what way doesn't it work?

Hi Dave,
When I type an address in the bar and I press the green arrow, nothing
happens and the computer stucks. I am getting a message than, that there the
program doesn't react after I tried to leave it using the ctrl-alt-del option.
Firefox does work however. But because I am most of the time using Explorer
it is a nuisance that it doesn't work.

Chris

I know of three causes for the vast majority of such problems:
1. Incompatible add-ons: What if you right click the IE icon on the desktop
and choose Start Without Add-ons?
Or go to Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet
Explorer (No Add-ons).

2. Tools | Internet Options | Advanced
Scroll to the bottom and click Reset Internet Explorer Settings. See this
article first:
How to use Reset Internet Explorer Settings (RIES):
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737
Note that the Reset IE Settings button will delete AutoComplete date (such
as passwords.) Do you have those backed up?

3. Malware already installed on the computer: Help with malware

Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for
malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you
owe it to the author. See also:
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=27971
Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.
