Lost tabs in Task Manager

T

Tom

Windows XP Pro SP3
All MS updates
FWIW, McAfee AV

Just recently I noticed that my tabs (all of them) are missing from the Task
Manager. I can get to them in any way. With a Cntl+Alt+Del or
Program>Run>TaskMgr I only see the "Task Status" display with the
buttons "End Task", "Switch To" and "New Task". Hence, I have NO way to
select the Processes tab, sort it and terminate any process individually.
Am I missing something here or what? I'm unable to coorelate this with
anything I've done or installed except possibly the last MS update for Oct
'08 which required a reboot.
Any input here HIGHLY appreciated!

Hi Tom,

What may have happened is that you double clicked the border around the
tabs, which puts TM into a compact mode.

Just double click the top border to put things back.

Thanks, Terry! It would be great is MS would tell me what to do in
situations like these!

You're running in what's called "Small Footprint Mode." To change back and
forth from this mode to regular mode, just double-click on the border.

I realize that the information is 'someplace' but Task Manager doesn't even
have a Help button to use nor does anything on a right-click work. So, I'm
essentially left to search the Microsoft site [which is probably the smallest
(!!) site on the web isn't it :)] Things on MS are always so easy to find!
Thanks for the link. It IS appreciated!!!!
Hmmmm :)

Tell ya what....will send this over to MS and see if they can add it to help
and/or under Options.

Some clarification on a previous comment about no Help button. There is a
Help drop-down menu but when you search for 'compact mode' or 'small foot
print' or any combination of the above nothing shows up. But here's the real
rub, I can't see nor access the Help drop-down menu when I'm in 'compact
mode' (or whatever). There's no message or indication of what to do!
I just knew (!!!) that I'd get an answer - correct one at that - from the
lurkers on the MS newsgroups!
TIA!

The standard hotkey for Help in Windows and applications is F1. It works
for Task Manager too.
