Lost Running Program Icons in TaskBAr

i am experienceing a very strange phenomenon.
none of the programs that are currently running on my desktop have icons on
the taskbar.
the programs are running as they appear in the taskmanager, and i can
ALT-TAB between them, but nothing appears on the task bar.
if i select tololbar items, they also appear on the taskbar. if i de-select
all the toolbars , the task bar disappears (except for the small line that
appears on the very bottom of thre screen)
i can't figure out what i did to make it go away and don't know how to make
it come back.
if i log on as a differnet user, it appears fine
i would appreciate some assistance on this

You may have dragged the taskbar to the bottom by accident. Hover your
cursor over the line at bottom of screen and drag it up to resize it.
