using win 98se, dell xpst-450 desktop, 5+ yrs old. pentIII, 450mhz, 384 ram,
13 gig drive, I.E. 6.0.

in i.e. 6.0, i selected under tools, reset web settings. after the changes
were completed, reset web settings was gone. i allowed the changes spybot's
teatimer advised to. to restore the reset web settings, i performed a
scanreg /restore, & the option was back.

my questions would be, is it normal to lose "reset web settings" after
selecting it?, & if not, how do you get it back other than a scanreg
/restore?

i have posted my main problem a few days ago,
"IE freezes when viewing page", Thursday, May 26, 2005 2:17 PM
i figured i'd try a few things on my own, & this was one; to try to reset
web settings. i know you folks are very busy, & i always appreciate all your
help!

thank you, len kiesling

thank you for reply! i checked spybot's immunize feature-recommended locks,
under tools>ie tweaks> the locks are unchecked. i will disable the teatimer.
i use spywareblaster.

have made no changes since scanreg /restore earlier today, which restored
the "reset web settings".

to understand correctly:
if i select reset web changes, & select to reset, & it no longer shows under
tools i ie,then, if i change something under internet
options>advbanced>browsing i will get "reset web settings" back?

thank you for reply.

thank you for reply! from what i read, but haven't tried, if you select
reset web settings, it will disappear, until you change something. as
example from pa's reply: in internet options>advanced> browsing.

thanks for link too!

No, I was asking you to try it and see if it *does* work, Len. I have no
idea if it does or doesn't, only an inking that it might.

thanks for reply! yes, you clearly asked if it did change! & not that it
would. my poor wording of reply in post.

i tried it on other machine which isn't showing "reset web settings". i
changed an item under "browsing" in the advanced tab of internet options.
after, i checked the tools menue in i.e. & it did not show "reset web
settings". maybe have to restart, which i didn't do. i'm not even sure what
reset web settings does. i just tried it as a fix for freeze up problem, &
when i saw that it disappeared from tools menue after using it, it generated
concern for future use.

thanks again!

thank you! didn't try it. put tick back where it was, & left it alone. now
that i see it on the programs tab, i feel safe knowing i can find it if i
need to. i will post back results when i change a browser setting & re-boot.
thank you again! len kiesling

thank you! un checked "reuse windows for launching shortcuts" . rebooted.
reset web settings did not show up on tools menue. not concerned, as
previously stated, can find it on the programs tab.
thank you, len kiesling
