lost programme on windows xp

whilst installing a game on cd-rom windows informed me that they had
encountered a problem. to be on safe side i deinstalled it and now i cant
access"my computer "through the "start menu" icon appears in toolbar bottom
left as though it is running but nothing on screen. ivetried all the usual
things but to no avail. support from pc performance is crap as well! SOMEONE
HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!

the failure of that game must have corrupted your registry...

what you might try is to do a
ctrl alt del at the empty desktop

then

look for explorer.exe and
kill/end the process.

then

go back to the first tab and
launch/start explorer.exe

if this works then your desktop will
appear and you are likely to be ok.

however, i would immediately do a

chkdsk and
run a antispyware and
antivirus.

if the above doesn't work, then you
need to excercise other options..
