lost primary drive 1???

when rebooting screen comes up primary hard drive 1 can not be found then
says hit f1 or f2 when trying f2 for set up nothing happens but f1 it does
log on where did my hard drive 1 go and how do i get it back

This means that you have a hardware problem. Things to try (test results
after each change):

1. With the computer off, reseat the ribbon cable on the motherboard and
the hard drive.

2. If that didn't help, swap out the ribbon cable.

3. If that didn't help, put the drive in another machine. Is it seen
there? If not, you know the drive has died. If the drive is fine in
another machine, you know your motherboard IDE connector has died.
