Lost pop3 messages

Hi,
I'm using Outlook 2000 SP3 on a home pc, downloading mail from my ISP. I
stupidly renamed the folder my PST file was in and then got errors when I
started Outlook. When I directed it to the PST file in the new-named folder,
it had lost all messages except those since last archive. I've run
scanpst.exe but no success. Anyone got any ideas on how I can get these
messages back? Are they stored somewhere temporarily until archived?

did you search for all pst's on the drive? if so, is the pst you renamed the
expected size for all of your mail? how many psts did you find and what are
their sizes?
