My HDD was partitioned with a C and D drive. 80 gig
partioned to 20 and 60.
All my personal files were on D and all system files were
on C. I had to reinstall Windows XP and during the
installation was asked to format the C partition. Now
that Windows is up and running, I don't see my D
partition.
4 years worth of data, where can it be. Does anyone know
why I don't see my D partition and can I get it back.

Right-click on MY COMPUTER and select MANAGE.
Click on DISK MANAGEMENT and in the lower right-hand
window (gray shaded area), right-click on your second drive
and select INITIALIZE DISK.

If that does not work:

Go to Start > Run and type: CMD , and hit enter.
In the Command Prompt window, type: DISKPART , hit enter.
Then type: RESCAN , hit enter.
Try initializing the disk again.

When my C drive had to be reinstalled, I had to download
the 6 disk installation from Microsoft. During that
installation it asked me to format my C drive. Then I was
able to install windows XP and had to delete the
partition of C but no D drive was visible throughout the
installation. I have an 80 Gig drive, only 32 gig shows
up. There is no reference to the D drive and I'm very
concerned that I won't be able to get it back. I tried
your suggestions and in the disk management, there is
only a C drive. I know the data is on the unused portion
of the disk, but I don't see the option of mounting or
activating a D drive.
Properties for the disk only show C drive.
Have I lost the possibility of getting that portion of
the drive back.
