Lost My Task Manager

I got a program and when I unzipped it a program call
sychost jumped started to run. (I could tell it was
running as my computer sounded like it was going a mile a
minute). When I stopped it with task manager, I had to
reboot. When I did, I couldn't use the task manager
anymore. The button is there, but it's not clickable,
it's all grayed out.

How do I turn my task manager back on... if I still have
one.
It really is a burden not to have a task manager.
