Lost my Inet connection

My desktop, running XP Home, was able to connect to my cable modem, now
it cannot. I have a linksys wireless router (laptop connected to net via
this), my desktop connects to the router via the RealTek and to the
laptop via the linksys adapter. The ipconfig.txt included below was just
created.

I have run a virus scan (McAfee) on my entire C drive - nothing found. I
always had McAfee firewall running.

I have tried connecting the laptop directly to the cable modem (with the
linksys cable remove) and get the same values for the RealTek. Doing a
Status | Support | Repair fails with a message saying I should contact
my ISP. Comcast says it is not their problem and cannot help. My PC
manufacutrer offered some suggestions that did not work. Their last
suggestion was to re-install XP Home. Since that wipes out everything on
my C drive, I can't do that yet.

Any suggestions?

From the information you sent, it appears that you are
not being leased a DHCP address--that is what
the "Autoconfiguration IP address" means.

Why this is happening? I don't know. I would reattach
the linksys router to the WAN (ISP), and reconnect your
computer another port on the router. Reboot the PC. If
you don't know how the router is configured, I would do a
configuration reset on the device to make sure it will
work properly (check the device documentation on how to
restore factory defaults).

When you do this, your computer should be able to get a
DHCP IP address from the router that starts with
192.168.... Once this happens, you can then point the
browser on your computer to the router at 192.168.1.1,
and log in with the default userid and password for the
router.

Once this is done, you can then verify on one of the web
screens from the router that you are making a good
connection to the ISP, and that the router itself is
getting an IP address from the ISP. If you can connect
to the router, and verify that your IP connection between
the PC and the router is working, but your router still
cannot connect to your ISP, then you need to contact the
ISP for more help.

One thing you can certainly try is to unplug your
DSL/cable modem for 1 to 5 minutes, and then power it
back on. This will force a hard reset, and the modem
itself should then be able to reconnect to the ISP.
Don't do this for less than one minute--and I personally
would wait for more than a minute, just because you are
having problems. You should also be able to tell from
the modem if it is working--you should have steady lights
on the WAN and PC indicators.

Once you do this, if you are still having problems,
report back with the "ipconfig /all" information again,
and let us know how things are going.

Thanks, Jack

I guess I wasn't clear enough. My lapto, as I type, is connected to the
net via (wireless) the router to the cable modem - that path works. My
desktop is connedcted to the router thru the RealTek and to the laptop
thru the linksys. The connection to the laptop works, the to the router
does not. The current ipconfig is the same as the one I originally included.

the laptop wired directly to the modem works. Swapping the cables to the
RealTek and linksys NICs described above gives the same result. The
cable company has provided me with a brand new modem. I have tried all 4
cable connections to the router. I have had the system powered down for
about an hour - no change in behavior.

The tech folks at the cable company and the desktop manufacturer both
concluded that something is corrupted on the desktop - that is why (they
say) the restore does not work.

Between the time when the desktop was able to connect and then not
connect I did NOT do any installs. I uninstalled the HP share to web
software (came with my pronter) and the AOL stuff (came pre installed on
the desktop. The uninstall of AOL did not finish - it hungm had to
reboot. I down loaded service Pack 1 and installed it, hoping it would
fix the problem. It did not, now my desktop runs much slower.

I am hoping there is a solution other than reinstalling XP (I am not
prepared at this point to have my C dirve refromatted).

thx for your suggestions,
bob

Turns out the problem was with winsock2 - re-installed it and can now connect.

Don't remember who gave me the clue to solve the problem, but thanks to all who offered help
