Lost my Fonts

Hi All.........
I have a computer running on WindowsMe and XL97. I did some designs in
Excel using the Vineta BT and other Fonts. I then upgraded my system to
WinXPhome, Version 2002, Service Pack 2, and the new installs of Excel,
(97, 2k, and XP) do not recognize that Font as well as many others that I
had in the WinMe installation of those same Excel verisons........anybody
know what I may have done wrong........or is this just normal business?

TIA

AFAIK, Vineta BT is not included in either Windows XP or Windows ME.
You must have obtained this font by installing some other program. You
can *buy* Vineta BT as a standalone font, but only you can decide if
it's worth the price. I haven't searched extensively, but it's
downloadable for US$24.75 from several sites, including
http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/bitstream/vineta/

Or look at the install CDs for some of the applications you had on your
Win ME system.

Are you saying that Excel can access any Font installed on my system by any
other (or some) programs?............that's weird......but if that's the way
it is, then that's the way it is............I had that WinMe hard drive
setup for a long long time, and have installed and deleted many many
programs over the years....no telling where it came from. I never just
"installed a Font", as such.

Is there any way to delete all fonts except those that come with the OS in
use? I write Excel apps for others to use and sure don't want to send them
Fonts they can't use.....and I don't know how to tell the difference.

In any event, thanks for the comeback and the heads-up

In general, yes. Fonts that are installed in the Windows\Fonts folder
are available to be used by any program and should show up in their font
menu.

A few programs (Adobe ones are an example) install extra fonts in a
different folder so that they only show up in that program or ones
belonging to the same "family". But if you want to make one of these
fonts available to all your apps, you only need to find the font file
and copy it into the Windows\Fonts folder so that other programs can see
it.

If you have a copy of your missing font, try re-installing it and it
should then be available for Excel to use.

Here's a list of the fonts that come with XP SP2:
