When installing the latest updates (for the last 8
months) on an XP home computer, the AOL quit responding.
I had to uninstall the updates to get AOL to stay
connected. During all of this the "My Computer" icon
disappeared from the desktop. How do I get it back?

Right-click on the desktop, then select "Properties" from the context
menu. Now choose the "Desktop" tab from the Display Properties dialog,
and click on the "Customize Desktop..." button at the bottom-left. Under
the "General" tab of the Desktop Items dialog that should appear, make
sure there is a check mark in the checkbox for the "My Computer" item.
