Lost my backed up files

I had a problem with my computer so I took it in to get it fixed. They backed
up all my personal files on my computer and also on a cd. They then "wiped"
my computer clean. When I went to retrieve my files, they were not on the cd,
nor were they in the folder marked "backup" on my computer. Is there anyway
to get my files back? The technician said he backed them up on my computer,
but I can't find them anywhere. I've tried to do a system restore, but
nothing is found. He said that they exist somewhere on my computer, but I
don't know how to get them back. Any ideas, or are they gone forever?!

Thank you.

Unfortunately, I do believe that your files are gone forever. Being "wiped" clean is getting the hard disk formatted and then re-installing
Windows. During the format and new install, it is pretty much guaranteed that your files were overwritten by the new operating system.

I would try to get my money back, if they did not save or backup the files.

I suppose this is not a 2 cents shop but has the reputation of being
reliable?
Then I would look for another partition on your hard disk that the
technician has used to backup yuur documents and drivers on ( IE :your disk
was 40GB, but you only had 10GB in use, he might have created a 5 to 10 GB
partition to move your stuff to)
So look in "My Computer" to see if there is another diskanother disk?)
Also if he(PC Tech) claims to have them burned on a CD, I would try to read
this CD in another computer first! Maybe he used his CD writing program or
did it via an unusual way. if not ->Go back with the disk to the shop and
let him read it. It his his duty to check the CD AFTER a backup was made!!!

Good luck

If he backed it up to Cd's, You Will need to install the Backup
Software the TECH used to make those CD's..

With Stomp or NTI Backup, you Cannot Read the Cd's unless you are
trying to read it with those programs, But usually There will me a TXT
file on the Cd disk that tells you what program was used
