lost mouse pointer

In windows 2000 I occasionally lose the mouse pointer when I take it to the launch bar at the bottom.
I cant seem to pinpoint the circumstances that preceede the loss, its random.
If I move the mouse into a window such as IE it returns in that window.
Anyone else seen this?
Any fixes, temp or permanent out there?
Cant find anything on MS support site.

is the Display adapter driver the correct version for your unit? Visit
the adapter manufacturers web site for current version. Another work
around is to reduce "hardware acceleration" in Adapter settings
troubleshooting.
