Hi,

There isn't on disc - is only on colourful label which you should stick to
your machine :)

Being a Dell disc the key is on the disc and when i try to activate it
nothing goes through. Ive been told that the keys on the disc is different to
the one on the boxes now I know they are. Microsoft is very close to the edge
of the envolope in aus we have an invasion of privacy act covering what they
are doing with taging pcs etc. So now i have to rely on Dell to come up with
the answers. thanks to all. feel free to leave replys. Wills

Since Dell is considered a "royalty" OEM, there are actually *two*
product keys!

The first one is the "golden master" one that Dell uses. This is the one
that will turn up when use programs such as Belarc are Magical Jellybean
Finder. Also, this should be the same key found in the winnt.sif file in
the i386 folder from your Dell installation CD.

The second one is the one that is on the sticker for your specific PC
should you ever reinstall your OS. Instead of using it, use the "golden
master" one for now. But in the future if you perform a clean install,
then the key on your sticker will be the proper one to refer to.

<snip>

What exactly does your loosing the product key for something you bought from
Dell have to do with MS? Seems to be some confused thinking here.

If your Windows XP is still bootable even in Safe Mode then try Magic
Jelly Bean key finder: http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml
If your Windows XP is not bootable then install the hard drive
temporarily as a second hard drive in a working computer and try

Good luck
