Installed the two 13 Oct hotfixes (tired of typing the #s in). Lost reliable
internet access immediately therafter. IE6 claims "web page cannot be found"
foa ll site even after cleaning history and caches. Netacape on same macine
works for about the first 2-3 web sites then says access denied. No other
access to internet works (Noron, Spybot, etc.). Local network is accessable
and printing to shared printers and seesing shared foleder all works. All
other machines on network, including 2 just upgraded with the hotfixes work
fine. A laptop on that network port works just fine. Of course, I cannot
install IE6 from Microsoft as I cannot get to them from that machine. Can I
download IE6 to a file in a shareed folder and repair it that way? Can I
repair IE6 from the oringal CD and then simply take it through all the
security fixes or is there a better way to do it?

Thanks for the advice and sorry it has taken me so long to find this
discussin again.
I have chilled out and gotten several ideas from the Extreme Tech
discuusion, unfortunately none of them has panned out. They follow but here
are my questions for you. Shall I just rename the hosts file anything else?
As you will see from below, there appears to be nothing overtly wrong with
it. And please, where do I find line 349 with the edit?

THEM: disable SP2 firewall, check for proxies in internet options, checks
HOSTS file for bad entries, run spybot, etc, refresh TCP/IP with netsh.......

ME:
Did all those things, no diff! In Event log found recurring entries to
Error ID 7000
but predatine the problem. Removed all of those Realpalyer problem with
ergedit. Also in even log beginning at the time of the hotix up dae was
Error ID 10010 from DCOM and this continues each time I try to connnec to the
network. Tiried the suggested registry edit but there was no key CLSID\CLSID
value\localserver32

Finally the suggstion to check the netowrk card and cables.

I avered that this was a reasonable suggestion as this old Dell has already
given me hasslea that looked like CMOS battery problems but ended up being a
corrupt AGP slot for the video card. Perhaps it is the slot for the network
adapter. We all have seen coincidental events that end up not being causal.
Any comments?
