I had a bad shut down and when I came back up, most of the icons have lost
their images. I tried a couple of the fixes I saw in earlier posts, but
nothing seems to help. I had high hopes for dougknox's regedit, but still
nothing.

Is there anything anyone else can think of?

Thanks,
Dennis

As near as I can tell, Doug Knox doesn't have a registry edit fix for
your issue, but instead suggests this:
Where did my Desktop Icons go?

Right click on the Desktop, choose Properties, Desktop tab and click on "Customize Desktop". Internet Explorer, My Computer, My Documents and My Network Places can be added or removed here.

If all of your desktop icons are missing, right click on the Desktop, select Arrange Icons By, then select Show Desktop Icons.

or try:

* at a command prompt, change to the %SystemRoot% folder
* remove the hidden attribute from the file:
type attrib -h shelliconcache and press ENTER.
* delete the file:
type del shelliconcache and press ENTER.
* logoff and backon and the default icons should be restored.
