Lost IE Icon

The icon for IE has disapeared from my computer. I can
open IE by clicking on a saved favorites place and then
go where I want, but there's no generic IE icon on my
desktop. I looked for the program to at least make a
shortcut but I can't find it on my computer (it's not in
the C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER file where you'd
think it would be). Obviously the program is on the
computer but nowhere to be found.
Can anyone help?

The program iexplore.exe should be in the folder you mention but if
you want the desktop icon...

Desktop icon
IE-Tools-Internet Options-Advanced
Check "Show Internet Explorer on the desktop"

For XP:
Control Panel-Display Properties-Desktop tab.
Customize Desktop

Todd,

Follow Alan's advice on getting back the Internet Explorer icon in the Desktop. Are you sure the iexplore.exe file is missing in the said path? You may use the search option to find the location of iexplore.exe...

Ramesh - thanks for your help. I did a search and found
explore.exe in the C:WINDOWS\ServiePackFiles\i386 folder.
I had been looking for iexplorer.exe in error (although I
still think it should have been in the Internet Explorer
folder!).
All is well now.
Thanks again.

The registry value that controls the IE desktop icon is:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\CLSID\{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B3030
9D}\ShellFolder\
Attributes=0x24(36) - IE desktop icon visible.
Attributes=0x100024(1048612) - IE desktop icon not visible
