Lost "From" field

We run XP Pro on two laptops and recently upgraded from Office 2000 to Office
XP. This enabled us to install Service Pack 3 on both machines. We like the
Office XP program on these older computers.

While managing email we accidentally grabbed and dropped the "From" field
into God Knows where? The result is that all folders [and we have 100s] no
longer show the "From" field. We have been able to restore the Inbox using
View > Current View > Defined Views and than manually restored "From" field.
But this only restores "From" to the Inbox.

I recall that the default view did include the "From" field. Is there a way
to restore default fields to all folders?

You need to reset the default views using the /cleanviews switch before
changing the default view - see
http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/grouping.htm for the basic method.

Thanks Diane. I visited the outlook-tips website an ran the cleanviews
switch as you recommended. The result was that all folders, including the
Inbox, which I had customized to include "From", no longer had "From".

I surely appreciate the concept and hope that someone can restore the
original Outlook folder settings. "From" is kind of fundamental.

Thanks,

Are you using the Message view?

Hi Again Diane--

While I was waiting I tried the Run > Outlook.exe /cleanviews again, with
Outlook turned off. Than I rebooted and it seems to be restored.

Thank You.
